If more people knew the truth about bats, maybe they would try to save bats instead of harming them.  Maybe they would try to save bats’ homes, too, like bat caves.  And perhaps they will even build bat houses, to invite bats to live near them.  If people can learn the real truth about bats, they will love them to the very end.

What a perfect post for Halloween! I think bats are neat, not scary. And some of them are so small, they fit in your hand!

Did you know that we have endangered Indiana Brown Bats at Silver Springs park near our house? Those are probably the types of bats we saw while camping with Girl Scouts this past spring.

I like bats too! They eat lots of mosquitos and other insects. We have seen 2 different bat flights in 2 different locations and states. When these occur at dusk, the bats are so numerous that they look like great curles of smoke circling in the sky except that you can sometimes hear their high pitched squeaking sounds and hear the swish of their wings.

We used to have some bats that lived in the chimney in the house where your mom grew up. Of course they would not stay there in the winter when the furnace would heat the chimney! Ask your mom if she remembers.

I’ll be watching for more posts!

Hi Emily. Our computer is now working, and back on line.We have two bats in our shed in Florida. I sometimes get them out to play. They are called baseball bats. Ha-ha.Real bats are very useful, and smart mammals. If you throw a rock or other object in the air at dusk, where there are bats, they will actually dive at them, thinking it could be an insect (food). Grandma and I have seen many bats in our many travels. Hope you are doing well in school, and violin, and behaving for your parents. Love and kisses…….
